Anjani's
Kathak Dance of India
Anjani's Kathak Dance
of India
(2-8 dancers & 2-3 musicians)
Anjani presents the 4,000 year old Kathak dance of India to relate cultural heritage and commemorate independence. Anjani is a
student of Kathak master Pandit Sundaarlajee Gangani.
Anjani's student/daughter, Amrapali, a principle dancer with the company
returns after a 3 year tour with Cirque du Soleil. Anjani's Kathak Dance of India performs this classical Indian dance around the
world to promote understanding, appreciation and tolerance through telling stories of ancient mythology and contemporary tales with
fast tempo bare footwork, ankles adorned with ankle bells, dazzling spinning turns, exquisitely detailed hand movements and
theatrical facial expressions.
Currently Touring:
"Shakuntala", one of the most celebrated Indian plays about the eternal love story of the beautiful maiden Shakentala and King Dushant of the Puru Dynasty. This rendition of the most coveted literary work of the Sanskrit language is enhanced by beauty, elegance, subtle nuances, dynamism and vibrancy in the tradition of Kathak dance. This collaboration between dancers and musicians from India and the Los Angeles based Anjani's Kathak Dance of India provides an evening of music and dance full of astounding color and pure grace.
